Yes, the connection is regular size. Both the male and female ends are regular size. I'm not sure about your question with pass through, I can hook up these on the back of Directv boxes and the signal picture goes to the TV. No way to know. I don't know if they work or not for protection. But I actually took mine off because it interfered with the signal communication between my TV and other components. Caused my blu ray player to cut off.
